Inquiring Minds Want to Know

In this post, I would like to answer some of our most frequently asked questions.  We’ve been talking up this trip for quite some time now.  And we’ve been sitting ducks just waiting to take off.  So, we’ve had lots of conversations with friends, family, and random strangers about our travels.  And so, without further ado, our most frequently asked questions are:

  1. “So, when are you leaving?”
  2. “Do you need a special license to drive that thing?!?!”
  3. “Do you have your whole route mapped out?”
  4. “What about your mail?”
  5. “How are you going to do laundry?”

I will address these questions in the order that I listed them above.  Because I’m wishing to inform and not confuse.

“So, when are you leaving?”

And the countdown begins!

People have also wondered why we’ve stuck around so long since we’ve been out of our house since Mid-July.  Long story short, Zac had some business commitments to fulfill that have kept us here.  All through the summer, Zac told me he’d have a better idea of when we could leave sometime after Sept 1st.  For a while we were playing around with September 18th as a launch date for the trip.  And, silly me, I got all excited for that date!  But we found out on Sept 3rd that Zac needed to stay until Oct 2nd.  The day I found that out was a rough day.  What I thought was going to be two more weeks of waiting turned into a whole month just like that!   There were tears and gnashing of teeth, but we pulled together stiff-upper-lip style and just kept on keeping on.  And now we are officially pulling out of Ohio on Monday, October 3rd to begin our journey.

“Do you need a special license to drive that thing?!?!”

See? Anyone can drive it!

This is by far the most commonly asked question that we have received.  And the answer is, yes, you do.  But who cares! We’re driving it without one!  Hahahahahaha….. just kidding.  Just making sure you’re really paying attention.  NO, you do NOT have to have a special license to drive “that thing”, the beast, the Buster, the RV.  I do not claim to know all of the details on the law as far as this is concerned.  Our RV has two axles and is 37 feet long.  But I think if you have an RV that has three axles and is over a certain length or weight or something, then you DO need a special license or certification or…. something.  I don’t know.  Like I said, I’m no expert.  Alls I know is that we don’t need one for ours.

“Do you have your whole route planned out?”

Wiser words have not been said

Yes!  And, no.  The truth is that we have a very rough idea of what we’d like the whole year to look like.  Keeping in mind of course that things may change.  And we have our first month planned out pretty extensively.  Well, at least as extensively as someone like myself can plan.  Not much of a planner here.  We have been in the process of nailing down which campgrounds we’ll be staying at and I have a pretty good idea of what all we want to see.  And, a pretty good idea of the people we want to visit!  (you all know who you are!) We have come to the realization that visiting friends is going to become just as important as sightseeing because we love hanging out with friends and we’re going to miss them back at home!  (you all know who you are!)  And, if those friends that we visit could secure a babysitter so that we could go out with them sans kids, that’d be AWESOME!  Hint.  Hint.

“What about your mail?”

junk-mail

A friend of mine recently told me that she was driving down the road the other day, passed an RV, and said aloud, “WHAT ABOUT THEIR MAIL!?!?!?”  If it had been a movie, it would have started with a wide shot, cued the traditional ominous “DU DU DUHHHH!” sound effect followed by a swift push-pull effect straight up to her face as she said the line.  At least, that’s how I envisioned it going down.  But back to the real world here.  We have gone paperless with most of our bills.  And we changed our mailing address to Zac’s current office space which he rents from a friend.  He is hoping that a kind soul there would not mind mailing everything that comes to us every three weeks or so.  He has yet to do this.  What can I say, he’s been busy and we are last minute type people.  But it will get taken care of one way or the other.  There are also really cool mailing services you can sign up for, but they can get pricey.  So, alas, this is one thing we have to iron out the details of over the next 17 days.

“How are you going to do laundry?”

These younger, better looking people know how important regular laundering is to a happy, healthy marriage.

I know what you’re thinking.  That’s kind of a personal question!  But, we have some really nosy, er I mean close friends who have no problem asking us about our laundry life.  Clearly, laundry is an important part of any healthy marriage.  Zac loves to do laundry and would do it everyday if I let him.  But I just don’t always have the energy to do the laundry everyday.  So, he waits so that we can do laundry together because, no one likes to do laundry alone!  Our kids, of course, are not old enough to know about doing the laundry.  Like many other children, they sometimes have questions.  Sometimes they look up at you with those big, beaming eyes and ask, “Mommy, where do clean clothes come from?” Like any good parents, we lie to them and them that a big white bird brings the freshly cleaned clothes to our RV every night.  But, we do live in close quarters.  Our boy’s bunks are right on the other side of our bedroom where the washer/dryer unit is.  And when that baby hits the spin cycle, the whole RV rocks.  But fortunate for us, our kids are really sound sleepers.  Seriously.  Once they are out, they are OUT. So, we have really never been concerned about one of them coming in while we’re doing the laundry.  And, if one of them does wake up the next morning and asks why the RV was moving the night before, we’ll just tell them we were doing something else…. LIKE DOING THE LAUNDRY.

So there you have it folks!  The answers to all of our most frequently asked questions!  Got any more??  We’d love to hear them!  You can leave your questions in the comments section below.
